Changing transfer fluid in the NP 231 transfer case - JEEP Wrangler YJ : Ep 16

After changing the motor oil and the transmission fluid you may want to check your transfer case fluid, which in the case of the Chrysler NP 231 transfer case contains the same fluid as used in the automatic transmission A999. In this video RAVENOL ATF+4 fluid was used, which is a synthetic, licensed automatic transmission fluid ATF with an unique additive package for Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge automatic transmission.

Many suggestions on which type you should use can be found on the internet but your best option here is to follow the manufacturers recommendations:

Dexron III/Mercon or ATF+3 or ATF+4 – Type 7176

Some people have chosen to run a straight 30 weight oil or 5W30 in a mineral or synthetic and the Novak guide reports that experiences with these oils have indicate positive results in noise reduction and wear resistance:

All comments confirming the Novaks statements would be greatly appreciated!
