7. A Kind Of Magic/Football Chorus/Vocal Improvisation (Queen-Live In Leiden: 6/11/1986)

In combination with my love for the Magic Tour, updating the channel, honoring requests by my subscribers, and preparing for the Magic Re-Debate (which will be in December), I will be re-uploading one of Queen's finest shows--the first Leiden show on the Magic Tour! I have two different sources of this show that I will upload: The first upload is a remastered/upgraded version of the "original" source that was previously uploaded on this channel; the second source is an alternative source that REALLY showcases how crazy the crowd atmosphere is (plus it has a punchier sound to it)! For this upgraded source, the tape hiss has been removed, and the mids are a bit more prominent! This makes listening to the show even better! This recording is 100% complete, and has reasonably good quality!

This concert has been acclaimed on websites (Queenzone, Youtube, Facebook, etc) as being one of the best Magic Tour shows, and has been ranked highly among fans! This show has a fantastic atmosphere (the Dutch fans are amazing), and this propels the band into delivering a fantastic show! Musically, the show is tighter than Stockholm (the first gig on the tour), and you'll hear some of the best (or at least top-notch) Magic Tour renditions of songs on this show! This ranks as my all-time favorite Magic Tour show, and is in my top 20 Queen gigs of all-time!

Freddie's voice is in superb shape on this show, and he has a ball on stage. He thrives on the crowd's energy by embellishing songs, displaying awesome stage banter, going for many high notes on songs (which ends up blowing out his voice during "Radio Ga Ga"), and even offering beer to audience members! He sings many songs with a high amount of vocal strength (going for key notes, showing no fear on songs, etc), and proves that the Magic Tour Freddie shits all over the Works Tour Freddie! Now, time for the song analysis...

"One Vision" has Freddie oversinging the song and nailing a good amount of the higher key notes (he even hits C5s towards the end), "Tie Your Mother Down" is a highly energetic version with Freddie hitting notes that he could only dream of hitting during the Works Tour, "In The Lap Of The Gods...Revisited" has Freddie accidently overshooting the B4 falsetto (he hits a C5 instead), but the rest of the song sounds great, "Seven Seas Of Rhye" is sung pretty blandly (considering his vocal shape) and he flubs the piano introduction--along with forgetting the words, "Tear It Up" has Freddie practically roaring out all the notes (to the point where he actually has to stop to take a breath), "A Kind Of Magic" is one of Freddie's best live vocals from the tour (he nails most of the key notes), and is the absolute best version ever, "Under Pressure" is a great version," "Another One Bites The Dust" is a solid version--but later versions have better improv sections, "Who Wants To Live Forever" has Freddie nailing all the notes in the lower key, but he uses a strange-sounding falsetto to hit them (which makes this version not my favorite), "I Want To Break Free" has Freddie singing it very well (although Brian has had better solos), "Now I'm Here" is great (apart from Brian making up chords during the first verse), "Love Of My Life" showcases how amazing the audience is, and "Is This The World We Created" is a great version!

The oldies section is performed brilliantly, "Bohemian Rhapsody" sounds amazing at this concert--with Freddie oversinging the song (but it doesn't sound obnoxious--unlike the versions from the early 80s), and hitting just about every note in the song, "Hammer To Fall" is a good version, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" sounds great, "Radio Ga Ga" starts to showcase Freddie's blown-out voice (he randomly cracks and gives out--though he does go for a decent chunk of the higher notes--even nailing the final pre-chorus), "We Will Rock You" sounds fine, "Friends Will Be Friends" has Freddie completely giving out throughout the song (he STILL insists on going for notes) and speaks his way around some parts, and "We Are The Champions" somehow has Freddie hitting the Bb4s decently (although the first one was in falsetto, and the second one has no sustain) despite his voice being completely worn out!

Note: The crowd atmosphere is incredible! They sing along to most songs, and the crowd do their "Ole Ole" football chant throughout the show (the band even join in)!

Note 2: Brian makes up chords during the first verse for "Now I'm Here."

Note 4: The first two Leiden shows are the only times Queen played the full version of "Friends Will Be Friends" on the tour! Due to the performances not being the tightest and because of the encore getting dragged out (and possibly because Freddie has trouble singing the song at the end of the shows), the song gets shortened for all the Magic Tour shows after the second Leiden gig!
