Upon gaining independence from Britain on January 1st 1956, Sudan was the largest country in Africa by surface area with more than 2.5 Million km2 of land. Despite the fact that sudan gained its independence as one country, there has been serious ongoing conflicts within the country particularly between the Northern part of the country and the Southern part. The situation escalated in the 80s which led to a second Sudanese civil war between 1983 to 2005. Fast Forward to 6 years later in 2011, Sudan split to form The Republic of sudan and the Republic South Sudan. After the secession, both countries fell down the raydar and became the poorest countries not only in Africa but the world.
The big question is, What exactly made this country split to form Two independent country.

Now, The origin of the conflict between Sudan and South Sudan dates as far back as the 1800s when the Ottoman ruler of Egypt, Muhammad Ali of Egypt, invaded and conquered northern Sudan. During King Mohammed Ali’s Rule, the Egyptian authorities made significant improvements to the Sudanese economy and infrastructure (mainly in the north), especially with regard to irrigation and cotton production. At that time the southern part of sudan felt ignored. Fast forward to 1899, Britain joined Egypt to rule over sudan and the situation between the North and South Agravated. Before Britain eventually entered into a condominium with Egypt, They had already extended their rule from Kenya in to the southern part of Sudan where they taught the south Sudanese English and made them practiced the Christian Religion. Since Egypt had control over the Northern Part of Sudan, the Northerners spoke Arabic and practiced the Muslim Religion . Until 1956, the British government, in collaboration with the Egyptian government (under a condominium governing arrangement) administered Southern Sudan and Northern Sudan as separate regions under international sovereignty. Northern sudan was given preferential treatment due to its strategic location and the presence of the river Nile while the south felt neglected. In 1925 Britain created the Sudan Defence force to assist the police in the events of civil unrest, and to maintain the borders of British administered Sudan. During this period the southerners did not want northerners to hold positions of power in the south and trade between the north and south was greatly discourages. Due to this Northerners who believed were more superior started pressurizing Britain to unify the two governments. Britain eventually sucuumed to the pressure and merged the two areas into a single administrative region… This act was taken without consultation with minority southern leaders, who feared being absorbed by the political power of the larger north under the British colonial rule. Additionally, the British government exhibited favoritism by supporting multiple Northern cultural components that further deepened the societal divide between the two regions. When this happened, Arabic was made the working language in the south and Northerners started holding position of power in the south and Southerners were given no chances in the North.
Though Britain and Egypt went into a condominium to rule over sudan together, Britain was practically the sole ruler of sudan since Egypt had several issues going on within its borders which eventually led to the Egyptian Revolution. Now, The Egyptian revolution began on 23 July 1952, by the Free Officers Movement, a group of army officers led by Mohammed Naguib and Gamal Abdel Nasser. The revolution was initially aimed at overthrowing King Farouk who was the ruler of Egypt at that time
However, the movement had more political ambitions, and soon moved to abolish the constitutional monarchy and aristocracy of Egypt and Sudan, establish a republic, end the British occupation of the country, and secure the independence of Sudan. Before Sudan was eventually granted independence the First Sudanese war had already started. The war started when Members of the British-administered Sudan Defence Force particularly those who were from the southern part met in (Tobit, juba, yei and maridi) all towns in the now south Sudan on August 18th 1955 to conspire and overthrow the current regime which was dominated by northerners. The conspirators were suppressed with the help of Britain. Survivors of the coup fled the towns and began an uncoordinate
