First Day of School as a California Teacher - Vlog | Fall 2020 Distance Learning

Hi everyone!

In this video I take you through my first day of school ~ distance learning style ~ from a teacher's perspective. All teachers are required to go to school and teach from classrooms. We have to get our temperature screened by a face recognition device in the front office and wear masks when we walk around school. The school has provided more structure this time around with distance learning (unlike March when we transitioned to distance learning in the span of a weekend). Some of those structures include always starting class with zoom or live streaming and taking attendance as well as specified digital etiquette for students such as keeping their cameras on so we can see them during class. Participation and engagement will be monitored through interactive platforms such as Nearpod and zoom breakout room sessions. On this first day I actually only saw three of my six classes and it just so happened to be one of each of the three subjects I am teaching: AP Biology, Principles of Biomedical Sciences (PLTW), and Marine Biology.

On my first day I definitely spoke way too much and felt like I was going to lose my voice after my classes.
