Mace Windu's story BEFORE the Phantom Menace (Legends)

Mace Windu was one of the most powerful Jedi to ever to join the order. What happened to Windu before the events of the Phantom Menace? How did he become Master of the Order and acquire a distinct purple lightsaber? In this video we will discuss the life of Mace Windu from his childhood up until the events of the Star Wars Prequels.

Born on the planet Haruun Kal 72 years before the battle of Yavin and the destruction of the first death star, Mace Windu was taken in by the Jedi at 6 months old after his parents both died in the jungle during the summer war.

Windu was born to a race of humans known as the Korunnai who were being studied by the Jedi for their innate connection with the force. As he had not yet been named by his people, the Jedi order named him as he entered the academy.

As all Jedi were during this period, Windu spent his early years training under Grand Master Yoda as a learner before becoming an apprentice under Master Tra Saa during his years as a padawan.

Around this time, Windu discovered his natural talent to perceive force shatterpoints. In order to understand what made windu such a powerful and wise Jedi, this potent force ability must be briefly explored.

Force Shatterpoints allowed users to somewhat manipulate time, allowing a user to see forks in the timeline. Shatterpoints often only existed for brief periods of time, with a user able to see how a particular action would influence events in the future. This ability could also grant a user to somewhat see past events, allowing them to see how an item, or individual came together. This was particularly useful in finding weakpoints. Allowing the force to flow through them, these often miniscule vulnerabilities could be taken advantage of, with even the hardiest of materials and opponents aqhbeing shattered by this unique ability.
Keep this in mind as these shatterpoints will become important later on in the video AND THROUGHOUT THE SERIES.

Anyway back to windu. When he was just 14 years of age, the Jedi council, would become increasingly concerned with his progress. Windu was at the top of his class for near enough everything, but he was struggling to construct his lightsaber.

However, Using his shatterpoint ability, Windu received visions of the unique and powerful saber he would go onto create.

Informing the council that he wanted a light saber constructed only of the best materials and parts, the council sent him on a solo journey to the world of Hurikane.

The natives of this planet were strange creatures made of rock and crystal and were hostile towards Windu when he first arrived.

Again using his ability of Shatterpoints, Windu would find a weakness in one of the natives stone bodies, causing it to crumble into a thousand pieces.

Filled with remorse and regret at killing this creature, Mace Windu would learn a valuable lesson about taking a life using his Jedi abilities.

Fortunately as this being was made of stone and crystal, Windu was able to recreate it using the force.

The natives would reward the young Jedi with a purple Hurikane crystal, which Windu would use to create his unique aand famous lightsaber.

Now armed with a distinct and elegent weapon as well as newfound wisdom, Windu would go on many missions durinf his late teens and early twenties. He would even return to his homeworld of Haruun Kal and would learn the language of his people.

In 50 BBY, a devastating civil war broke out on the scientifically advanced planet of Arkania. This war saw the wisdespread use of cyborgs by the Arkanian renegades against the rightful Government.

The Republic would send a task force to quell the rebellion, with a Young Mace Windu being sent along with them. The task force saw the involvement of the extremely controversial Iron knights, droids trained in the force by Jedi master aquinnos and controlled by sentient crystals known as shards. Both sides in the war were extremely morally questionable but the Jedi, blindedby their arrogance would of course not see it that way;
