Valentine Moghadam and Shamiran Mako on the Aftermath of the Arab Spring

The Middle East, a region of enduring interest and importance for US policy, presents of kaleidoscope of countries, transnational movements, regional alliances, religious identities, and shifting diplomatic allegiances. In recent decades, movements including the Arab Spring have reshaped national identities and within these movements, women have often played important, if sometimes underappreciated roles. Valentine Moghadam, professor of sociology and International affairs at Northeastern University and Shamiran Mako, assistant professor of international relations at the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University discuss these areas drawing from their recently published book, “After the Arab Uprisings: Progress and Stagnation in the Middle East and North Africa” (Cambridge University Press, 2021).
