My name is Devraj. Or rather... I was called Swami Devraj. For more than twenty years, that was the name by which everyone knew me at the ashram in Bloomington, Indiana. I was a sannyasi monk, a renunciate, a man who had left everything behind in search of the divine. I was born in India, in Varanasi, on the banks of the sacred river Ganges. I grew up listening to the mantras chanted by priests at dawn, seeing bodies cremated on the ghats and the ashes spread across the same river where pilgrims bathed in search of purification.
