The Truth About Art Motivation
Get our free guide 'Life Drawing Success' all about the learning mindset for drawing figures at https://community.lovelifedrawing.com/lifedrawingsuccess
This video is about art motivation. It was supposed to be about New Year's Resolutions, but then I realised, that's not really what we need to talk about.
I guess if there's a central takeaway to this video, it's that it gets easier. You just need willpower for the struggle phase, where you're rolling the boulder up the hill. Then we talk about the 3 ingredients to get through the struggle and back to what drawing really is: a lot of fun.
You'll always need a little bit of discipline, to keep skills sharp and work on the things you've been avoiding, but the really hard phase is the early one. I call it the 'early phase' but for me it lasted 15 years, because I kept quitting and starting again.
A quick note about the drawing I showed - it's me trying to figure out some charcoal techniques I've not really tried before, so best not to take too many lessons from it. It's filled with mistakes, but it was lots of fun, lots of learning and I liked how it turned out.
I hope it's useful! Figuary 2020 is coming! 29 days of drawing tips and practice so be sure to subscribe to stay up to date.
