Llangollen Railway 1980s Weekend: Class 08 Number 13265 Departs Glyndyfrdwy Station
British Railways Class 08 0-6-0 diesel-electric shunter number 13265 was built in 1956 by British Railways. This 50-tonne locomotive is powered by an English Electric 6KT 6-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine which generates 350 brake horsepower. The locomotive utilizes a DC electrical transmission system, is geared for a maximum operational speed of 15 to 20 mph, and delivers a starting tractive effort of 35,000 lbf. Class 08 locomotives are widely referred to as "Gronks" within the rail enthusiast community. This particular asset later carried the TOPS designations D3265 and 08195. It is painted in its historical corporate BR Black livery with the early emblem, and does not feature yellow and black warning wasp stripes on its ends.
The video footage records the locomotive at Glyndyfrdwy Station, situated on the Llangollen Railway in the Dee Valley, Wales. The passenger service originally arrived at the station double-headed with locomotive 13265 and fellow Class 08 number 08202. Upon arrival, locomotive 13265 uncoupled from the train then executed a run-round maneuver via the station loop line to position itself at the rear of the coaching stock. After coupling to the train, locomotive 13265 departed with the service back to Llangollen. This operational sequence was captured during the Diesel Power & Ultimate 80's Weekend event on Sunday 31/05/2026 at 16:17.
