Five days ago I reviewed IDSedit, a free visual IDS editor built by Louis Trümpler.

Louis replied the same day.

Then he shipped fixes.

This video is the follow-up. I go through every change he made, test the new behavior, and run the final IDS against an IFC model in IfcTester.

What is covered:

Duplicate and copy paste nodes with Cmd+D and Cmd+C / Cmd+V.
Drag and drop from the palette onto the canvas.
Material values as free form input, no longer limited to presets.
Where enumerations actually live in the IDS schema (under restrictions).
The IFC schema picker explanation and default schema inheritance for new specs.
What still needs work: selection by rectangle, scaling for larger IDS files, and checking material existence without naming a specific material.

At the end, I export the IDS, open it in IfcTester against the Almighty House model, and verify that the specifications actually run.

A tool gets built. Someone tests it. The creator improves it. The IDS runs against a model. Everyone learns.

That is what openBIM is supposed to look like.

Have you tried IDSedit since the update?

Do you prefer visual IDS editing or text based?
