It was the greatest secret war in SAS history: one of the least known, yet most crucial battles of modern times. If the SAS had been defeated at the Battle of Mirbat in Oman in 1972, Russian plans for a communist foothold in the Middle East would have succeeded with devastating consequences for the West. It was a historic battle with impossible odds: 9 men against 400 and it cost the lives of two of them. Now Roger Cole, one of the SAS soldiers who took part, is campaigning to win posthumous Victoria Crosses for the unsung heroes who died in this forgotten war.
