Fans of Gettysburg and Gods & Generals cannot miss this historical epic movie, based on true events during the American Civil War.

In early 1865, General William T. Sherman’s Union forces left Savannah, Georgia, pushing into South Carolina. His troops clashed with Confederate defenders at Broxton Bridge and River’s Bridge, suffering their only defeat at Aiken under General Hugh Kilpatrick’s cavalry. Undeterred, Sherman pressed on toward Columbia, the heart of Secession.

Sherman's March To The Sea was a scorched-earth campaign designed to cripple the Confederacy's war-making capacity, demoralize the civilian population, and demonstrate the Union's power. While Union troops did not destroy towns, they looted farms, confiscated food and livestock, and burned private property, resulting in substantial damage to the Southern infrastructure and psyche.

After devastating Georgia, Sherman forces followed their March To The Sea with the Carolinas Campaign, beginning February 1, 1865. The goal was targeting the State that initiated the Civil War and was home to the war's first shots. Sherman's strategy again involved living off the land, destroying railroads and military supplies, and personally impacting civilians to undermine Southern morale and shorten the war.
