Homemade Naan/No Tandoor/No Oven/No Yoghurt/Restaurant Style Soft and Fluffy Naan

Homemade Naan
Serves 3 Naan

INGREDIENTS

2 cups plain flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp instant yeast
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp cooking oil
3/4 cup luke warm water

METHOD

- add flour, baking powder, yeast, salt and oil to a bowl and mix together
- gradually add in the water and knead the mixture into a dough form
- once the water is all added if you have any remaining dry flour left than slightly wet your hands and combine all the dry dough kneading it as you go along
- when the naan dough is kneaded cover and set aside for 3/4 hours allowing it to rise
- after 3/4 hours the naan dough should have now risen to double the size and once poked with a finger the air will be released
- dab your hands with oil and knead the dough for a final time and your naan dough is ready
- divide into 3 parts and than make a ball like you would do for chappatis. The technique is to bring it in from the outer parts and continuing doing this until a smooth ball is made. This will bring out a perfect texture when rolling out into a naan
- when the naan balls are ready scatter some flour onto the surface and roll out into your desired shape
- heat up a tawa pan and slightly wet one side of the naan with water
- once the tawa pan is heated up place the naan onto the tawa with the wet side down sticking to the tawa
- continue to cook on medium/high flame until bubbles have started forming
- now if you are using a tawa which is NOT a non stick than in the next step you may flip the tawa over and hover over the naked flame and cook the top side of the naan.
- however as my tawa is non stick it will not allow the naan to stay stuck down whilst hovering therefore i will use a roti wired rack to hover over the flame and cook the other side
- once it has nicely cooked and got the browning texture on the other side i will remove onto a plate and brush with melted butter
- Repeat the same procedure with the remaining naans
Your homemade naans are ready to be served. Enjoy!

Tip: you will need to place the dough in a warm place tightly covered for it to rise
