Garden Transition Periods. Picking Veggies with One Foot in Summer, One in Autumn
Mid-late September in my climate is that last push to get our annual veggies to ripen. I'm getting weary of gardening this time of year. Tired of hot weather, frustrated with months of no rain. I'm ready for cold, rainy days spent spinning yarn by the fire.
A big part of sustainability in the garden for me this time of year is being able to stand with one foot in summer, and one in autumn. To appreciate the last of the summer sun, fresh tomatoes, and basil, and also look forward to fall's rest from gardening and the return of the rain. I need to be present in these last days of summer, while also owning that I'm ready to move on to the next season of the year.
