South Korea rolls out the new KF-21 Boramae fighter jet!

South Korea has rolled out the first prototype of its next generation indigenous fighter, previously referred to as the KF-X, and officially named it the KF-21 Boramae, meaning hawk in Korean. The jet, South Korea’s most ambitious yet, is expected to fly next year and the country’s president has confirmed an ambitious schedule to complete the development program for the initial version of the aircraft by 2026. Full scale development work on what was then known as the KF-X began in 2015 and in 2019 South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration DAPA, which manages defense procurement, announced the go-ahead for the construction of a prototype. Last September, KAI announced that the final assembly of the prototype fighter was underway, mating the fuselage sections and wings. The Republic of Korea Air Force ROKAF is expected to induct 40 KF-21s by 2028 and have the full fleet of 120 aircraft deployed by 2032.
Južna Koreja se stvaranjem supersoničnog lovca KF-21 pridružila ekskluzivnom klubu zemalja proizvođača naprednih vojnih vazduhoplovnih sistema. Novi avion neodoljivo podseća na američki F-22, ali je mnogo jeftiniji, a Južna Koreja zbog toga polaže velike nade u njegov izvoz.
Očekuje se da će KF-21 biti naoružan širokim dijapazonom projektila vazduh–vazduh i vazduh–zemlja, a potencijalno će moći da lansira i krstareće rakete.
Izgled i oblik KF-21 podseća na druge lovce pete generacije (iako se tehnički podvodi kao lovac na prelazu između 4. i 5. generacije). Južnokorejski lovac veoma je sličan američkom F-22 „Raptoru“, posebno repni i nosni deo, kao i oblici usisnika. Što se dimenzija i performansi tiče, KF-21 dugačak je 16,9 i visok 4,7 metara, sa rasponom krila od 11,2 metra. Maksimalna brzina mu je 2.200 kilometara na čas, a domet 2.900 kilometara. Dvomotorac će imati dve varijante kao jednosed i dvosed, zavisno od namenjenog zadatka.
