N.C. Nurse: Most COVID patients in their 30s, 40s
The average age of the patients Catherine Austin, a nurse in Atrium Health's COVID Unit, sees are in their 30s and 40s.
"The hardest thing I think I've ever had to do is to FaceTime families for them to tell the people they love the most goodbye or to call a mom or dad or spouse on the phone to say 'I hope he's still here when you get here but unfortunately things are very very grim,'" she said.
Catherine shared her thoughts as part of NCHA's 'Frontline Voices', a series of short videos featuring frontline healthcare workers sharing what it's like taking care of COVID patients and patients sharing what it's like having COVID.
Vaccinations save lives.
Masks save lives.
The life they save may be yours.
