El Reno, Oklahoma Tornado, May 31st, 2013

Video from my vantage point of the El Reno, Oklahoma tornado on May 31st, 2013. We were directly out ahead of the tornado to the southeast of El Reno in the first part of the video and then moved to the south to get out of the way in the second part. The tornado made a sharp northward turn as we positioned ourselves to the south and allowed it to pass by. As this occurred, there were many chasers and others who were positioned near I-40 that were caught off-guard by the sudden shift in the track. Unfortunately, this led to some fatalities as a result, including world renowned storm chaser and tornado researcher Tim Samaras, his son Paul, and Carl Young. This is certainly a sad day for the entire weather community. They will be missed.
