English short synopsis “Searching the Lost Ones”
My father Rudolf Teutsch had been a decorated Waffen SS man during World War II. Before the war he had been serving in a concentration camp.
I myself had seen my father only a few times in my life and until the age of 13 I didn’t knew that he was my father at all.
40 years ago I asked him about his past in the NAZI Reich but he refused to answer my questions.
His second wife Irma though told me a lot about my father & his time in the army & his hatred of all former opponents of the war & that the best thing to do is to throw a bomb on Israel.
I found it hard to hear that.
My father’s rejection & his views encouraged me to make a film all the more, even without his personal appearance.
The aim was to find Jews whose roots are German, & their fates closely linked to the Nazi-German past, but without betting on the “Shoah card”. In conversations with Jews however, the Shoah is inherent.
My simple question: So what are the Jews & what do they think & do they only talk about the Holocaust & do business from morning to evening & constantly run to the synagogue & eat strange food?
I found out that everything is very different of course!
