*** Transcript:

You want to make good decisions, right? So, consider this. In Jeremiah chapter 41, there is a small group of Jewish survivors who have just escaped the destruction of Jerusalem, and an attempted abduction by the Ammonites. After all that, verse 17 is says: “And they went and stayed at Geruth Chimham near Bethlehem, intending to go to Egypt.”

This remnant faced a decision. Stay near Bethlehem to rebuild, or go to Egypt in hopes of safety. Chapter 42 tells us, they made the wrong decision, quickly, against God’s word, against Jeremiahs counsel, and against God’s will for them. For that, they suffered dearly for that wrong choice.

Learning from their bad decision making. Here’s a better, biblical decision making process:

Five Steps: First Pause - Proverbs 19:2 Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way. Avoid making a fast decisions. Pause. Get the Facts. And examine the possible outcomes of all the options. Second Read - Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. When facing a decision, Get God’s Take, see what the Bible has to say about it. Third Ask – Proverbs 15:22 Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed. Ask advice from a reliable sources. It could be a friend, parent, or pastor. Forth Yield – Luke 22:42 “not my will, but yours, be done.” Jesus, spoke those words giving us a principle to follow. Our will needs to yield to God’s will. Because God’s directions is always the best direction.

Pause. Read. Ask. Yield. The fifth step is a part of every step, and that’s PRAY. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 - Pray without ceasing. As you Pause, pray. As you Read, pray. As you Ask, pray. And as you Yield, pray. When facing a difficult decision, remember the acronym: P.R.A.Y.
