How to Make an LED Chaser Circuit || 555 Timer + CD4017 IC
Here is how to make an LED Chaser Circuit! Please refer to below or the Comments for how it works. Let me know what you guys want next as a 200 Subscriber Special!!!!! :))
Components:
* 555 Timer IC
* CD 4017 IC
* LED Lights x10
* Resistors: 470R, 1K, 47K
* Capacitor: 1uF
* Breadboard
* Lot of Breadboard Connectors
* Power Supply: (5-15)V
CONNECTIONS MENTIONED IN VIDEO:
Pins 13 and 15 of CD4017 to GND
1st LED - Pin 3
2nd LED - Pin 2
3rd LED - Pin 4
4th LED - Pin 7
5th LED - Pin 10
6th LED - Pin 1
7th LED - Pin 5
8th LED - Pin 6
9th LED - Pin 9
10th LED - Pin 11
HOW IT WORKS:
The 555 Timer is configured for the Capacitor to Charge and Discharge Current which makes the current(i) go high and low repeatedly. So we can write it sort of as [i = 1......i = 0......i = 1......i = 1] where 0 means 0 amps and 1 means an amp greater than 0. This is also known as a clock pulse. The clock pulse gets fed into the clock input of the CD4017 IC that detects when the Voltage is High and Low. When it detects a high voltage, it will trigger the first pin which make the first LED glow. Then when the clock pulse goes to 0v, the LED turns off. Furthermore, it moves on to the next output pin and does the same. This is done for all the pins and then the cycle repeats. So that's how this circuit works.
