Side by side comparison of two surfskis: VEGA vs V10 Gen1

We like paddling. We like talking paddling. And we're fascinated how each boat design has its own personality and performance characteristics, and also how surfski design in general has evolved.
With that in mind, we took a page from April Zilg's side by side comparison of her Kahele and Ehukai OC1s so we could see how the Kai Wa'a Vega compares visually and in dimensions from Barry's older first generation V10.
In some ways, this isn't just a comparison between boats, but also a comparison between generations. Surfski design has come a long way in a short time, and it's fun to see how these boats compare when you sit them side by side.
Be sure to watch the video to catch the visual comparison (the difference in rocker is pretty cool!), but here's a quick summary of a few of the measurements we took.
Compared to the older V10, the Vega ski is:
4" (10.16 cm) shorter.
1/8" (.32 cm) narrower at the seat (outside width)
1/4" (.64 cm) narrower in the seat (inside width)
1/2" (1.27 cm) deeper in the seat, when measuring from rail height to seat bottom.

Also, the hump on the Vega is about 1 5/8 inches (4.13 cm) lower than the hump in the older V10, something you immediately notice when switching between the two boats.
Be sure to subscribe to The Paddle Channel as we grow more familiar with the Vega and talk more about feel and performance. And maybe we'll even show you what happens when a V10 Sport paddler hops into a Vega.
Until then, paddle on!
