Dr. Doris Zallen: Weighing the Pros and Cons of Genetic Testing | Live talk | Being Patient

Zallen is Professor Emerita of Science Studies and Humanities at Virginia Tech, where she researches bioethics with an emphasis on genomic medicine. She is the author of two books on genetic testing, including To Test or Not to Test: A Guide to Genetic Screening and Risk. In this book, she draws from the experiences of individuals interviewed who were facing genetic issues themselves or in their families. In addition, she headed a team that created an online educational tool to help people make decisions about whether or not to have genetic testing for the APOE-4 gene. Zallen is not a genetic counselor, but her 4-question framework is a supplement to genetic counseling by helping people weigh their options carefully.
