howard prince (woody allen), a lowly cashier and part-time bookie, becomes the unlikely face of a group of blacklisted screenwriters during the height of the 1950s red scare. as he enjoys the sudden prestige and a budding romance with florence barrett (andrea marcovicci), howard is forced to confront the moral cost of his lucrative facade when the huac turns its gaze toward him.
