Using hot water to fix bumper

I got hit in a parking lot. 8x speed and some regular speed sections. If I took the bumper off to do this I feel like I would have wasted less water and turned out marginally better. I've done this with a heat gun before but this seems to be better at delivering heat evenly over the damage. I'll probably never do this again with hot water and just stick to the heat gun.
