Tragic Details About Billie Holiday

When you think about jazz and swing music there is no way not to mention Billie Holiday. The singer nicknamed “Lady Day” was a pioneering influence in jazz music and her signature raspy vocals pioneered a new way of manipulating and phrasing tempo.

One of her signature songs, “Strange Fruit,” which is a song based on a poem about lynching, became controversial for the times but still became one of her biggest-selling records.

However, the legendary singer died in 1959 from cirrhosis, aged just 44. Throughout her life and career Holiday battled with legal troubles and drug abuse. Let's find out how Holiday’s tragic upbringing and bouts with addiction eventually caught up with her.
