Laura has just become a hurricane and is now expected by the National Hurricane Center to become a major hurricane before a likely landfall near the Texas and Louisiana border. Although the exact landfall location isn't pinned down yet, that anyone along the West Coast of Louisiana and Northeast coast of Texas should be preparing for the potential of significant hurricane landfall, possibly as a major hurricane. Expected storm surge along low lying coastal areas is expected to be over 9 feet in significant portions of coast East of the landfall location, with expected rain totals of 4-6 inches with localized maximums of 6-10 inches, raising a considerable concern for flash flooding in Southwest Louisiana right now, alongside the threat of strong hurricane-force sustained winds. In the Western Pacific Basin, Typhoon Bavi is moving North over the East China Sea and is expected to impact the Korean peninsula this week as a major typhoon. Gale warnings are starting to come into effect off the shores of South Korea, with warnings likely to extend tomorrow.
