Newborn Hunger Cues

How do you know when your baby needs to eat?
Newborn babies have several instinctive behaviors that tell you that they're hungry and ready to feed: like rooting, sucking, and tongue thrusts. They show these cues for 10 - 15 minutes before they cry. If you feed them when they start to show these cues, they are less likely to escalate up to crying. Babies under 6 weeks old need to eat at least 8 - 12 times a day.
