Lighting & Editing Mono Male Portraits | Take & Make Great Photography with Gavin Hoey
Making a black and white portrait can be as simple as just removing the color saturation. But if you want to make your mono portraits stand out then a little planning goes a long way.
In this video, photographer Gavin Hoey takes you through a simple two-light studio self-portrait that creates moody lighting that works well with male subjects. Starting with a large overhead light, Gavin shows you why a single light up top leads to portraits with dark eyes. He then adds a second flash to fill the shadows and add even more contrast.
Finally, Gavin takes you into Adobe Camera RAW where he takes more control of the black and white editing by adjusting individual color tones.
