Finding Your People: Why Community Is Everything When You Come Back to Christ

Coming back to Christ is one of the most courageous things a person can do — but the journey doesn’t have to be walked alone.

When I returned to my faith, not everyone in my life understood. Some old friendships felt distant. Some people didn’t know what to do with the “new” me. And if you’re in that season right now, I want you to hear this: isolation is the enemy of restoration. The enemy wants you alone. God designed you for community.

Proverbs 13:20 says, “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” The people you surround yourself with matter more than you think — especially when your faith is still finding its footing again.

Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us not to give up meeting together, but to “encourage one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” The Church isn’t just a building. It’s your covering. It’s your accountability. It’s your family.

And if you feel like you don’t belong yet — like you’ve been gone too long or done too much — remember the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:20). The Father didn’t wait for his son to explain himself. He ran to him. That’s the heart of God toward you.

Don’t isolate. Find your people. Get planted in a church. Let others speak life into your walk. You were never meant to do this alone.
