Hurricane Zeta and Typhoon Molave (#QuintaPH) Live Update

Zeta has become a hurricane in the Caribbean Sea today as confirmed by recon aircraft, and could intensify further during the next 6-8 hours before making landfall in Mexico near Cozumel and Cancun, where hurricane warnings are already in place ahead of the storm's approach. Hurricane Zeta will then enter the Gulf of Mexico and turn northward, with minimal change in strength expected, and will most likely make landfall in Louisiana late on Wednesday. Due to Zeta's current rate of intensification, it is now expected that Zeta will be a hurricane when it makes landfall in the United States later this week, and watches may be issued later today.

Typhoon Molave (Philippine Name Quinta) has emerged over the South China Sea and has been quickly intensifying. Molave is already a Category 2 equivalent typhoon, and forecast to reach Category 3 strength during the next day. Weakening is then anticipated before landfall occurs in Vietnam, but the forecast intensity for landfall in Vietnam has been risen, with a Category 2 landfall now possible. Regardless of intensity, the storm is also expected to bring dangerous flooding and mudslide threats as it dumps over 16 inches of rain over some areas of Vietnam.
