Happy New Year from Avetis Aharonian 1930

New Year’s 1930 Address to the Armenian people worldwide by Avetis Aharonian (1866-1948) – the President of the Delegation of the Republic of Armenia.

“My fellow Armenians!

In this festive hour let us remember our Homeland, which today, contrary to its former brilliant civilization, has been turned into a wasteland at the hands of the Turks.

Let us not forget our struggle which we waged shoulder to shoulder with our allies for the sake of our freedom and independence. Let us also not forget the tragedy that accompanied this struggle. Let the nations of the world remember our plight, which stands in front of them as an eternal reminder.

Let the great United States, whose president (Woodrow Wilson) has internationally established the boundaries of our country remember its commitment. Let us also remember this fact and never forget that it is us who have to carry the burden of reestablishing our independence through our dedication and unyielding will.

This is my New Year’s wish and desire.”
