‘Schizophrenia’ is a short film that follows a teenage girl battling a mental illness without the use of much needed prescription medication. The film is a dramatized psychological representation that explores the range of emotions and everyday challenges of a teenage girl living with schizophrenia. The purpose of the film is to explore the issues associated with the illness through a dramatized and suspenseful lens, as well as open the eyes of a mature audience of the invisible suffering of those affected by mental illness. In this case, un-managed schizophrenia is troubling the life of teenager Avery Marsh who experiences hallucinations of a demonic being. Her schizophrenic episodes are portrayed through the technical features of both still and rapid camera movements, dark and cold colour grading, and suspenseful soundtracks and voice overs, accomplishing the unsettling feel of this psychological thriller.
