Mike Scott, el fundador y único miembro permanente del grupo, realizó unas grabaciones entre 1981 y 1982 mientras militaba en una banda llamada Another Pretty Face. Estas sesiones en el Estudio Redshop son las primeras grabaciones que más tarde serían publicadas bajo el nombre de The Waterboys.
