PC Tech, Episode 01: How I fixed my lab PC for (fairly) cheap

As a change of pace, here is a video explaining how I fixed my home lab PC after a motherboard failure. I have decided that for the near future, all of my PCs will be based on used Dell Optiplex and Precision hardware. I think this will allow me to keep my systems running, using CPUs and memory I already have, without spending lots of $$.

Mentioned in the video:

The Game Bench is the premier channel for learning how to use and modify Dell Optiplex hardware: https://www.youtube.com/user/BlastMode7

EscoTech made a great video explaining how to install a standard 92mm tower CPU cooler in an Optiplex: https://youtu.be/j8ez-6ffxxU

Harbin Repairs sells adapters allowing Dell motherboards to be installed in standard ATX PC cases: https://harbinrepairs.com/

The Harbin Repairs adapters are open source hardware (https://github.com/HarbinRepairs/Dell-Optiplex-MB-Header-Adapters), with full schematics and PCB designs. This means that if you can source the components for them (2x3 and 2x10 2mm female headers, standard 2.54mm male headers, and one 0805 470 Ohm resistor), you can have the PCBs fabbed and make your own. If you look at this video, you can see that this is what I did. (I did pay full price for one set, which is definitely the fastest and most convenient option.)
