REKRUT - HUMAN TRAFFICKING IN THE PHILIPPINES

25 years ago, on July 19, 1993, Kamalayan Development Foundation (KDF), the non-government organization which founded the rescue operations of child laborers trapped in work enslavement, rescued 7 children and 20 adults who were victims of human trafficking and were suffering from deplorable working conditions in a sardine factory in Navotas, Metro Manila. It was on that date when the issue of child labor in the Philippines first came into the surface, and as such it was a landmark achievement for it did not only expose the problem but also became a precursor of initiatives done both by government and NGOs to eradicate child labor and human trafficking.

The video is produced by ECLIPSE with the assistance of Development Innovation Insider to raise the awareness of the general public on human trafficking as depicted by the true-to-life story of Josie Caberos, one of the rescued child laborers in the sardine factory. With the help of the KDF workers, Josie was able to free herself from the horrendous experience of modern slavery and through ECLIPSE, has emerged herself as a community volunteer committed to prevent human trafficking.
