Count 1 is a short downstroke where I strum the top two or three strings only. Count 2 is a faster down and up strum on all 6 strings. Count 3 is down and count 4 is up. This is the basic pattern but there are small variations here and there.

My acoustic version of Sloop John B with chords and lyrics. The Beach Boys took this one to No.2 in the UK singles chart in 1966.
