Steam Power On The NYMR + The Scarborough Express !

This year our annual long stay visit to the North Yorkshire Moors would see no steam gala event and just the four service trains would operate along the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, the main service which is currently operating is the 'Optimist' which runs twice from Pickering to Whitby and this is supplemented by two local shuttles from Grosmont to Goathland which is called the 'Rail Trail' which gives you the chance to walk the old original railway line. While on holiday we was able to capture the regular summer to autumn mainline charter which is steam hauled from York to Scarborough, the engine of choice was 45699 Galatea which is running as 45562 Alberta.

The main reason for our holiday in the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is always to witness the sound of steam power slogging or blasting it's way up the 1/49 bank to Goathland and in reality it's currently the only place in the UK to see and hear a 9F Working hard, while other railways don't pose much of a task for the preserved 9F's due to easier gradients or shorter trains lengths. The Southern Railway S15 '825' took the plaudits for the most atmospheric climb of the weekend, with the loco having to dig deep to reach Goathland. The North Eastern Railway's J27 also features at the start of the video.

Unfortunately the video should of been a lot longer but the weather had been very bad and we only really had a day and half of filming in slightly calmer weather. Some of the wind we faced can be seen in the video.

I hope you enjoy some of our videos.
