Real-time analysis of cellular phagocytosis
Presented By: Tim Dale
Speaker Biography: Tim co-founded the European laboratories of Essen BioScience in 2009 and is currently Director of Biology, managing R&D operations. A highly experienced industrial pharmacologist and leader with 20 years of service, Tim has a track record in applied drug discovery. Applying his knowledge and expertise to drug discovery programs in the neurology, psychiatry and gastrointestinal therapeutic areas, he has contributed to the progression of a number of candidate molecules into clinical studies. Tim has co-authored over 20 publications and patents relating to pharmacology, ion channels and cell-based assays. Most recently, Tim is applying his many years of experience to extend the portfolio of cell-based applications utilizing live-cell analysis in the fields of oncology, immunology and neuroscience.
Webinar: Real-time analysis of cellular phagocytosis
Webinar Abstract: Alongside intense efforts to exploit T-cells as immunotherapies for cancer (e.g. checkpoint inhibitors, CAR-T, T-cell metabolism), researchers are increasingly considering other immune cell types for novel targets. One example is the enhancement of macrophage function via inhibitors of CD47 ìdonít-eat-meî signalling proteins, enabling tumour cells to evade clearance by neighbouring phagocytes (Kim et al, 2012, Leukemia 26, 2538ñ2545). To identify new CD47 and phagocyte modulators, novel, direct and validated assays with throughput commensurate to drug discovery are required.
