Rare Gorilla Twins Born in War Zone | Firstpost Africa | N18G

In Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo, conservationists are celebrating the rare birth of mountain gorilla twins, a male and female, in the Baraka family. Twin births occur in less than one per cent of cases, making this the second such event in three months. Despite high risks to infant survival, both sets of twins are reported healthy. The milestone comes amid ongoing conflict in the region, where armed groups operate and over 200 rangers have been killed protecting wildlife. Still, conservation efforts are paying off, with mountain gorilla numbers rising from about 250 in the 1970s to over 1,000 today.
