Topics are related to breakfasts, Italian breakfast of croissant or cornetto and espresso or cappuccino versus more continental or salty breakfasts with bacon, eggs, pancakes, mahamri / mandazi, and more. You can find these at 4-star hotels of course but not to assumed. About holidays, when to come to Italy, August is dead month and high prices, don't expect for many businesses to be open. Garbage is unfortunately a problem for Rome although it is getting better it can turn people off sadly. Customer service is a Russian roulette: you find very nice friendly and incredible Italians that will help you and even try to speak English, but more often you also receive a very indifferent attitude towards customers. When you come from countries where the customer is always valued, this can be a real shocker. There are many long queues or lines to be made for essential services. Although many transactions are becoming digital, they still oblige you to go through a bureaucratic process before hand, almost defeating the practical purpose. In my three years, I have seen improvement. Dog lovers unite! They are welcome in places you would not think of, like the mall, the metro, wow! Not my personal favourite as someone wary of dogs (that can bite), but if you travel with a pet, you are safe here. Finally, a very absurd one, bars are cafés! You can find pastries or even lunch in bars, while in many other countries, bars are intended mostly for alcohol consumption and a snack at best.
