Belfast on Fire: Knife Attack Triggers Anti-Immigration Violence | IGR | India Global Review

Violence erupted in Belfast, Northern Ireland, as anti-immigration protesters set fire to vehicles and buildings following the arrest of a Sudanese man in connection with a knife attack that left one person seriously injured.

Hundreds of demonstrators, many wearing masks, gathered at multiple locations across the city on Tuesday. During the unrest, a bus and several cars were torched, with clashes and disorder reported in parts of Belfast.

The suspect in the stabbing, which took place in north Belfast late on Monday, was formally charged on Tuesday night with attempted murder, possession of a bladed weapon in a public place, and making threats to kill. The 30-year-old man, whose identity has not been disclosed, is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

According to police, the victim, a man in his 40s, suffered serious injuries to his eyes as well as slash wounds to his face and back. Investigators said a kitchen knife recovered from the scene is believed to have been used in the attack.
