How Waimea River Waves Form: Start to Finish!

Blair Conklin gets to Skimboard the Rare and Illusive Waimea River Wave. As you can tell from this video, River Waves make me very happy and this was one of the best ones I have experienced in my life. You never know what you are going to get when the river begins to breach the Sand Berm and anticipation is on the rise! No river break is the same! Riding these waves is not at all similar to an ocean wave. It takes hours and hours of practice to be able to get in a groove on these waves and only a few can do it! From start to finish, this video shows how a river is damed up by a sand berm with a high tide and big swell. Next, the water begins to seep over the Sand berm and form a trench. The rest of the work is done by gravity. The waves that are formed from the outflow of water are very dangerous. The people in this video are very experienced and know when the rapids are too dangerous to cross or be in. If you are ever at the beach when this happens I advise you to keep a safe distance between yourself and this body of water. I have seen too many people get very close to drowning because they do not understand the raw power of this situation.
