Biography
An English rock band formed in 1975, consisting originally of Ian Fraser Kilmister, stage name: Lemmy (vocalist, bassist), Larry Wallis (guitarist) and Lucas Fox (drummer); later in 1975 Fox was replaced by Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor (drummer). In 1976 ‘Fast’ Eddie Clarke was added as a second guitarist but Larry Wallis left the band at this time so Clarke became sole guitarist. In 1982 Clarke left the band and Brian Robertson stepped in as guitarist to help the band complete their North American tour, he left in 1983 and two guitarists were subsequently added to the band, Würzel and Phil Campbell. In 1984, following the recording an episode of The Young Ones (Bambi) Taylor left the band and was replaced by Pete Gill (drummer) who played with them until 1987, when he left Taylor returned to the band, he finally left the band in 1992 whist recording the album March ör Die; two other drummers recorded on that album (Tommy Aldridge, for most of the material and Mikkey Dee, who recorded ‘Hellraiser’ and continued on as Motörhead’s drummer). Würzel left in the band 1995 and the band remained as a three-man band (Lemmy, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee).
Arguably, Motörhead’s most famous song is "Ace of Spades" which was released in 1980 and was the title track to the album of the same name. The song was in the UK singles chart for 12 weeks.
