The Ethiopian Bible, a treasure trove of ancient writings, is a mystery among Christians. Despite being the birthplace of one of the world's oldest civilizations, Ethiopia has not received Christianity as a gift, dating back to centuries before the fourth century. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church is the world's oldest Christian organization, not the Catholic Church. In 2010, a monastery in Ethiopia discovered one of the oldest illustrated Christian books, the Kebra Nagast, which includes portions of the Gospels written in Ge'ez, an ancient Ethiopian language. The Bible was initially authored in Hebrew and translated into other languages, but many works were deemed apocryphal or contested. Church officials and intellectuals decided which writings should be considered canonical, and the Ethiopian Bible and its supplementary materials were not included in the canon according to most Christian denominations.
