Dredge Update: Parker’s River & Seagull Beach | February 4, 2026

Barnstable County’s dredge vessel Sandshifter has resumed operations in the Parker’s River Approach Channel following a weather-related pause caused by high winds and extreme cold. Dredged sand from the channel is being placed on Seagull Beach to support beach re-nourishment efforts.

Crews are working within a narrow weather window, with strong winds forecast this weekend expected to pause operations again. The current scope focuses on clearing shoaling between the jetties and along the southern portion of the channel.

This project marks the first of two planned dredging efforts in Yarmouth. Once complete, the dredge team will move on to scheduled projects in Chatham and Harwich.

Meanwhile, the County’s other dredge, Cod Fish II, remains frozen in place in Sesuit Harbor. The U.S. Coast Guard is expected to arrive early next week to break up the ice and restore access so operations can resume.

Safety and weather conditions continue to guide daily dredging decisions as crews work to maintain navigable waterways across Cape Cod.
