In this video we take a look at the Pearl Crystal Beat acrylic drum kit. Acrylic drum kits we popular in the early '70s for their distinctive look, and they've had a modern resurgence recently. The cool thing is that modern production techniques make these modern acrylic kits much better-sounding than the vintage ones. This Crystal Beat kit uses molded acrylic, not rolled acrylic. This means there are no seams in the shells, for much better tone and sustain.

This shell pack comes with 7" x 10" and 8" x 12" rack toms, a 15" x 16" floor tom, and a 16" x 22" kick drum. The toms are each 6-mil thick, while the kick drum is 7-mil thick. On the toms, you'll find 1.6mm triple-flanged hoops which help enhance sustain. On the kick drum you'll see matching acrylic hoops for an ultra-cool look - most acrylic kits will still feature metal hoops on the bass drum, so I thought this was a nice touch.

I like the sounds I was getting from these drums, and they felt great to play. I'd describe this kit as "lively," and it felt inspiring and fun to play.
