During a town hall on Thursday night, President Trump said that he is “ready to sign” a fourth coronavirus stimulus package, and if he and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi strike a deal, Senate Republicans will get on board. Trump said that he wanted a second stimulus package that was even bigger than what democrats want. And in an interview with Fox News he reiterated what he has been saying all week that “he would go higher,” and that congress must “Go big or go home.” He explained how “You know who I am negotiating against? Nancy Pelosi. She doesn’t want to give the money,” he said. “This is not our people’s fault. This is China’s fault.” In addition to this, the president went on to say, again, that he is “ready to sign a big beautiful stimulus.” He said that “he wants it to be big, he wants it to be bold.” And Ultimately Trump said that : “If Nancy Pelosi and he—if they agree with something—the Republicans will agree to it.”

Treasury Secretary Mnuchin and House speaker Nancy Pelosi had their best meeting in months yesterday and they finally agreed on a number of aspects in the second stimulus package that have been holding negotiations up. After their meeting yesterday Nancy Pelosi’s spokesperson Drew Hammil said, “The Speaker and Secretary Mnuchin spoke at 3:30 p.m. today for 1 hr, 22 mins.” Hammier explained that “The Secretary stated he would accept Democrats’ language for a national strategic testing plan with “minor” edits & that language would be shared tomorrow. The Speaker looks forward to reviewing”. Mnuchin explained how ”they’ve agreed to $178 billion overall for health which is an extraordinary amount of money.” He goes on to say that “they also agreed with the Democrats with $75 billion going to testing, contact tracing” and how these were the two main things holding back a bill from passing. Mnuchin said how ultimately “what they have been focused on for the last two weeks during negations is the language around testing," he added. He said that he is “not going to let the testing issue stand in the way because they fundamentally agree with their testing language subject to some minor issues that they now worked out“

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) officially broke with the White House on stimulus negotiations on Thursday, saying that Republicans lawmakers won’t support a massive stimulus that the White House and Democrats are negotiating. The Kentucky Republican rejected the idea of a coronavirus relief package larger than $1.8 trillion and deemed his own $500 billion plan a more appropriate response. Mcconnell explain how “there are discussions going on between the Secretary of the Treasury and the Speaker about a higher amount and a larger stimulus bill but that’s not what I'm going to put on the floor.” He said that the Senate will be voting to pass his $500B stimulus bill on Monday. He explained how “his members think what we laid out – a half a trillion dollars, highly targeted – is the best way to go, so that's what I'm going to put on the floor," McConnell said. Ultimately he said “it's what Senate Republicans ... feel like is an appropriate response" and he won’t put a bill up to vote that is more. Mcconnell said that even thought the president is talking about a much larger amount, he wouldn’t be able to sell that size of stimulus bill to his members,”
