How to Fix “Your Volleyball Passing” (INSTANTLY!)

Volleyball Passing is by far the most important skill for winning in volleyball. Yet most people have bad technique, and this contributes to them not achieving the levels of success they would like. In this video I am going to show you how simple changes in your volleyball technique and how your train can have a massive impact on your results. Once these techniques are learned I will also teach you a few important verbal cues you can use to “Solidify” them into your muscle memory for ongoing success.

As a new player one of the biggest mistakes players make is to follow the technique of “Great” players without understanding if that technique is fundamentally sound or not. A great example of this in our opinion is April Ross poor volleyball passing technique. Her technique in our opinion is incorrect as discussed in the video and players should rather look towards a former great player like Karch Kiraly. (Arguably the greatest male player in history having won a gold medal for beach volleyball and indoor volleyball who also currently 2022 is the Head Coach of the USA Women’s National Team)

This video breaks down good volleyball passing technique for instant results into two areas:
1) Starting Position of The Arms, (Platform)
2) Correct Hand Position. (Platform)
To fix this quickly, the starting position of the arms should in our opinion start straight and pointing down after leaving your legs. Most balls are passed in front of the player, and this allows for less movement before ideal passing position of the platform. For balls coming on the side again starting from a straight arm is better vs. extra movement with both arms bent. Karch Kiraly by comparison when he played uses technique Andor Gyulai is describing in this video.

The next common mistake to fix your passing for indoor or beach volleyball is your hands. Many players unconsciously grab their thumb when passing. By grabbing your thumb where your figures wrap around the thumb most often results in a not perfect straight platform.

A better technique is to focus on the “Thumb” being parallel to the arm it is one with the figures pointed in the other direction. Players then grab the fingers of the opposite hand and focus on the verbal cues: “Thumbs Parallel,” and “Wrist Together.”

This change is technique, rooted in two strong verbal cues will mostly of result in a perfect passing platform with less errors.

This video features a player Andor Gyulai met just the previous day in Los Angeles at the beach playing volleyball. Andor shared this technique with the player “Jack Warner,” and the results and improvement were instantaneous. The result was Jack adopted this better technique going forward and was very satisfied with the results.
