Britannia Bridge Level Crossing

Welsh Highland Railway NGG16 Garratt Steam Loco No.138 in Crimson Lake, and Welsh Highland Railway NGG16 Garratt Steam Loco No.87 in Colonial Blue both head into Porthmadog Harbour station, having just come from Pont Croesor. This crossing in Porthmadog has to be the most abstract crossing to have ever existed in the UK, having 7 sets of lights, four roads entering the crossing and the railway tracks heading down the road and across a bridge over a river. The crossing has Keep Crossing Clear signs, although the crossing can get quite congested, and it is almost impossible to keep the crossing clear at all times. The trains have to stop and activate this crossing manually, and as they do so, the left red light flickers before the amber light comes on. The footways have two separate crossings on each side of the river, and the rails are clearly marked out. There are red lines and yellow dots highlighting their presence, and there is a bright green cycle lane, as cycles could get their wheel caught in the rails, fall over, and sue the railway. The bridge had to have an extra section put onto it to allow the railway to curve off of it, but since the Britannia Bridge is a Grade II listed structure, it was hard for the railway. The harbour station was upgraded with a new platform and signalling in 2014, to accommodate Welsh Highland and Ffestiniog trains at once. This crossing could really be considered as a tramway section. Bloody regulations.
