Interviews with Jewish Settlers at the Tomb of Abraham Part 1
It was a Friday night at the Tomb of Abraham about 10pm, we met a group of settlers praying and feasting on the grounds. We had a chance to interview them individually and as a group. Here is the first interview, the second will follow. I am sure this group was armed, there also Israeli soldiers on the grounds too. This Tomb is over 4000 years old.
This is an amazing spot historically, when Abraham died, his funeral was attended by both Isaac and Ishmael (founder of 12 Arab tribes on of which Mohammad claims descent). Here the sons and grandsons of Abraham gathered. Four thousand years later, these two men's descendants would be facing off again in the conflict between Islam and Judaism.
Hebron is where the "Tomb of Abraham" also known as the Tomb of the Patriarchs is located. On a Friday night, we interviewed and watched the dependents of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob pray and feast. This Jewish settlement in Hebron is small compared to the Palestinian population around them. I think its about 500-850 settlers to about 250,000 Muslims.
The main focus of this city is the Tomb of Abraham, both Muslims and Jews claim Abraham as their forefather.
Until Israel took possession of Hebron Jews were not allowed to pray or even be at the tomb. The building was built in the 6th Century AD by the Byzantines it covers the cave of the Tomb, purchased by Abraham as a burial site for his wife Sarah (Genesis 23).
